**OR**
We have had
AHIMA's Coding Basics program students ask if the
courses they take will be accepted as transfer credit.
AHIMA's Coding Basics is a noncredit program. We are
currently requiring that our matriculated students who
want to transfer Coding Basics courses to complete an
online comprehensive exam in each course area. On any
exam that they achieve a grade of 80% or higher,
transfer credit is awarded. There is no charge for this
process.
HOW TO REGISTER FOR INTERNET-BASED COURSES
Then
you will register you for online courses using Bannerweb
(
http://web.alfredstate.edu, click Bannerweb).
VERIFY THAT YOU ARE REGISTERED AND PAY YOUR TUITION BILL!
Once you successfully login the first time, you will be
required to change your Password to another 6-digit
number. Be sure you change it to something you can
remember. If you forget your Password, just email
helpdesk@alfredstate.edu and ask that your Banner

Apply for Financial Aid Online for FREE! |
Apply for financial aid online (for free!) at
http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you have questions about
financial aid, call 1-800-4ALFRED to speak with someone
in the Financial Aid office. Even if you think you are
not eligible for financial aid, you should complete this
free application. You just never know!
NOTE: Financial Aid is available for the Coding & Reimbursement Specialist and Health Information Technology/Medical Records Programs. In addition, the federal government provides information on education tax credits at http://www.irs.gov (enter “education tax” in the Search box.)
Apply for a Student Loan
with one of our recommended lenders,
to save time and steps!
|
|
As an Internet-based student, it is crucial that you
apply for student loans through one of Alfred State
College's recommended lenders so the College receives an
electronic funds transfer (instead of a paper check,
which has to be mailed to you for signature.) Call
1-800-4ALFRED, Financial Aid, for a list of recommended
lenders.

You can purchase your textbooks Online! it's EASY! |
Students who take online courses purchase their books
online at
http://www.alfredstatebookstore.com .
The first time you login to purchase textbooks, you will
be required to enter a valid credit number. You can
enter a note instructing the bookstore to NOT charge the
credit card if you are eligible for financial aid. To
use financial aid for the purpose of textbooks, you must
set up a campus spending account (CSA) by contacting
Student Accounts at 1-800-4ALFRED.
If you purchase your textbooks elsewhere (e.g., half.com,
amazon.com, etc.), you must purchase according to ISBN
(international standard book number), which can obtained
from the
www.alfredstatebookstore.com Web site. If you
purchase a textbook elsewhere that has a different ISBN,
you risk purchasing the wrong item. (Some textbooks are
bundled with a special ISBN at
www.alfredstatebookstore.com to give students
the best possible price.)
NOTE: Faculty do not assist students in the purchase of textbooks at sites other than www.alfredstatebookstore.com, and if you purchase the wrong textbook there is nothing that faculty can do to assist you. Faculty also do not provide information about textbooks to students because that information is available at the www.alfredstatebookstore.com web site.
The Coding & Reimbursement Specialist (CRS) program
prepares graduates for entry-level coding positions in
health care facilities (e.g., hospitals). The program
meets the requirements of the American Health
Information Management Association (AHIMA) and the
American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
Graduates are eligible to take AHIMA's Certified Coding
Specialist-Apprentice (CCS-A), Certified Coding
Specialist (CCS) and Certified Coding
Specialist-Physician-based exams. Graduates are also
eligible to take the AAPC's Certified Professional
Coder-Apprentice (CPC-A), Certified Professional Coder
(CPC) and Certified Professional Coder-Hospital-based
(CPC-H) exams. (Because Alfred State’s HIT program is
accredited by CAHIIM and the CRS program is organized
under the HIT program, the CRS program does not have
separate AHIMA approval status. CRS graduates are
eligible to take AHIMA’s coding certification exams.)
You will need to formally apply to the program by going
to
http://www.SUNY.edu to apply online or by calling
1-800-4ALFRED to ask Admissions to mail you an
application packet. There is an application fee of
$40.00. To follow-up on receipt and progress of your
application, send email to

The Health Information Technology/Medical Records (HIT)
Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation
for Health Informatics and Information Management
Education (CAHIIM), sponsored by the American Health
Information Management Association's Council on
Accreditation. Students who successfully complete the
program are eligible to take the national certification
examination to become a Registered Health Information
Technician (RHIT). Traditionally, Alfred State graduates
have achieved a passing rate above the national average.
According to AHIMA.org, HIM professionals can expect to
be in high demand as the health sector expands into the
next century. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics
cites health information technology as one of the 20
fastest growing occupations in the US. On top of strong
job prospects, competitive salaries also await HIM
graduates. More than half of new HIM graduates with a
bachelor's degree start with salaries in the $30,000 to
$50,000 range. By five years out, one can earn upwards
of $50,000 to $75,000 annually. Most new HIM graduates
with an associate's degree jump right in and earn
$20,000 to $30,000 annually. And these figures are just
averages—many HIM professionals report salaries upward
from here.
To see the
results of AHIMA's latest member salary and profile
survey, go to

.
